Some of the weapons in Stardew Valley have a + Weight stat. For instance, the Claymore sword has +3 weight. What, if anything, does this stat affect? Does using a weapon of this type make my character stronger? Is it just an indication that the weapon is slower to swing?

The bubbles you occasionally see indicate a higher activity of fish in that tile. If you successfully land your lure within or close to that bubbling tile when fishing, you will get a visual confirmation with the water splashing. The area for the benefit slightly extends outside of the tile, and the different visual effects can be seen below:
Note: The Standard Fishing Visual Effect is also displayed when the bobber hits the water.
When fishing from the ripples, you will notice that fish and other debris bite much quicker. With lures and bait, you will find fish biting within the first 5 seconds of fishing.
Though it displays as a whole number, under the covers your character's stamina can have decimal values. Levels in applicable skills reduce, by a fractional amount, how much stamina it takes to use the tool. Here are the ones I was able to figure out.
These skills cause you to use 0.1 less stamina per skill level with these tools:
Foraging
- Axe
Fishing
- Fishing Rod
Farming
- Hoe
- Sowing a seed
- Watering Can
Mining
- Pickaxe
These always use 4 stamina:
- Milk Pail
- Shears

I can say after testing that it is knockback. I have used a Crystal Dagger which had weight 5. And most bats and especially ghosts where pretty much just knocked out of the screen.
It feels to me like beeing planed as advantage but in my opinion its actually a disadvantage.
I returned to even a weaker weapon without weight and getting along better with it.
So I can confirm as allready mentioned: weight means knockback.
