It's been a long time since I played EQ, so keep in mind this might be outdated.
Bards are jacks of all trades, so just about any class should be fine. It really depends on which direction you want to lead your pairing (Ranged DPS, Melee DPS, Kiting...). Myself, I'd choose a ranged heavy DPS class like a Wizard or a Necro, which would benefit from the Bard's increased mana regen and stay conveniently away from the mobs the bard kites.
The "default" method is the only approved method. EverQuest does not provide any facility for addons, and also explicitly prohibits their use. They go as far as to monitor player's process task list. The following is from the EQ Terms of Service:
D. CONSENT TO MONITOR
Please note that some games available on or through The Station may, when in operation, monitor your computer's random access memory, MAC address, and system and configuration files, crash data, etc. for the purpose of monitoring [..] and also for the purpose of identifying unauthorized third party programs running concurrently with your game which, in SOE's sole determination: (i) enable or facilitate cheating of any type; (ii) allow users to modify or hack the applicable game interface, environment, and/or experience in any way not expressly authorized by SOE; or (iii) intercept, "mine" or otherwise collect information from or through the applicable game (an "Unauthorized Third Party Program"). There are many merchants around the world. As a druid i found it best to use South Ro merchants for the Sketches, and Kelethin for the Pottery Wheel and Water/Clay. The Pottery Wheel is located in the SE corner of Kelethin (at -204, -540 +161) and the Clay merchant Merchant Legweien is (at +410, +371, +78) platform north of POD lift.
Step 2
Make Unfired Medium Container until you hit skill 36
When you do successfully combine into Unfired Medium Container, just drop it on the ground. Merchants will not take it unless you use a Firing Sheet with it. Which is way too time consuming to matter, since Firing Sheets do not stack either. So you will find yourself running back and forth way too much, and it is not worth it. Its better to eat the money.
