Disabling Steam Cloud Synchronization
It is unfortunate that you have to play two different characters on those computers, however if you are happy with this to be the solution, all you need to do is the following:
Right click on Torchlight II
in your games list and select Properties
On the Updates
tab, you will find a setting for disabling Steam Cloud (The Steam synchronization service)
It is your choice whether you want to disable Steam Cloud on both (Just follow those steps on the other computer). If you leave it enabled on one computer, you will have that game data safely backed up on Steam's Servers.
Resolving the Conflicts Later
First back up your game data
- Navigate to
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Runic Games\Torchlight 2
- Copy the
saves
folder to somewhere else and keep until certain that the game works.
If Steam Cloud conflicts when you re-enable it, tell steam to not copy either files:
Navigate to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Runic Games\Torchlight 2\save
in Windows Explorer and open the folder which is made up on random numbers (#################
).
Add your other character file in there and then tell Steam Cloud to force your local files onto Steam Cloud.
Disclaimer: I have not tried this and have posted this answer entirely based on my theoretical understanding of this game. I cannot verify that this method will work. You should back up your game data first in case anything goes wrong or something breaks.
The sharedstash.bin
file cannot be merged with another (to my knowledge), so that will not be able to be copied over. The character stash is saved in the character file, so that will remain intact.
Restoring Game Data if Something Goes Wrong
Navigate to where you backed up your saves
folder.
Delete the saves folder in %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Runic Games\Torchlight 2
and then paste in your backup copy.
You can then either try again, try a different method or just choose to keep one set of game data.
I think all the character customization options are available -- at least that's how it appeared to me as I booted up the demo for the first time last night. There's also a randomization feature if you just want to click that until you get something you like.
I also like the fact that each class can be male or female and that when sending your pet to town you can also include a limited shopping list that he'll fill (potions and identify and town portal scrolls).
I believe the demo is so large because it includes the entire game but, of course, it's locked beyond the demo part until you pay for it.
Oh, one other addition/change from the first game -- you may now "fish" with dynamite. Not very sporting, but faster -- though I think the instructions for using dynamite to fish say you won't be able to catch as many fish from a given fishing hole as you can with a fishing pole.

ACT I
Widow's Veil in Crow's Pass
You have to light up all fires and than backtrack to locked door
ACT II
Tower of Moon
It's small arena you have to hit four gongs for secret door to open
Brood Hive
The area for the side quest [Missing Zeraphi] where you have to clear up all eggs. This one does not have any puzzle. You just have to look very carefully
ACT III
Abadoned [cursed] Windmill
You have to read all diaries and find four skeletons attached to wooden beams by axes, when you click on them you will hear ghostly wail and one torch on small graveyard lights up. When all four are "saved" door will open. You have to do this before teleporting to the boss, otherwise you have to enter that area again.
Cacklespit Realm
Destroy all tree stumps, you should open hidden passage. But on my 2nd char its bugged, so maybe you will need to travel back to 2nd city to rebuild new map if that happens to you as well. But when all tree stumps are cut down, you will hear distinct sound. Than go around edges of map on one place logs will appear and create you way for last robot part.
That should be all pieces - now you need to obtain power source from Main quest so its unmissable.
