If I buy multiple Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receivers will I be able to use them at the same time? I know that each one should support 4 controllers, so if I buy 2 could I connect 8?

To pair multiple controllers to the same receiver, simply follow these instructions for each separate controller.
To summarize the instructions:
- Plug in the gaming receiver to a USB port on your computer
- Use the "Install Automatically" option if the Add New Hardware wizard pops up
- Download the XBOX wireless controller software from here and install
- Once installed, turn on the controller by pressing the middle 'X' button
- Press the connect button on the receiver (the light flashes green)
- Press the connect button on the wireless controller (pictured below).
Your Xbox wireless controller should now be connected to your machine. Repeat steps 4-6 for each additional controller.
From what it looks like you can't use multiple wireless controllers through CronusMAX at once. Although it does look like you can use one CronusMAX in addition to 3 normal controllers.
This provides information regarding non-hub controller support , but the original link does state that you can only use one controller through the adapter at once. So I'm going to say you can only use one.

Yes you can use more than 4 wireless controllers on some games. For example Gang Beasts, Knight Squad, Miner Warfare and Screencheat support up to 8 controllers via DirectInput instead of XInput.
DirectInput works with any controller including Xbox controllers. The use of DirectInput or Xinput is down to the developer or engine that they are using. It is not something that you can configure in Windows.
Update: I noticed that the upcoming windows wireless adapter states that it "(s)upports up to 8 wireless controllers". I wonder if they've removed the XInput limit and whether this will be for windows 10 only or if they will eventually backport to Windows 7.
