I live in Brazil, and I had to create an US account, since here our catalog was too restricted. I also have a Brazilian account, to buy special offers, but my main account is the US account. I now have an Xbox One, and the marketplace is pretty much the same.
Can I change the region to my country, and buy using my currency, without changing the location of my US profile?
I would suggest buying your son a prepaid card. You do have to remember when it runs out and buy another, but they tend to be $10-15 cheaper than buying the same amount of time through Microsoft directly. It's also much easier to stop being a subscriber, since you just don't add more time to the account - no need to figure out how to stop the automatic payments.
You can create your X-Box account for any country, however you can only change countries once every 12 months. This can be done via the X-Box live website. You have to however copy all your downloaded content to a backup USB since you can't re-download these. Also the country on your Live account and the X-Box account must match, otherwise it will create some havoc. To access the change your region options on X-Box live look for the following on your account:

Gamercards can only redeemed for the country they are bought for, as they are linked to the Live store for each country.
The only reason I can imagine your games won't work bought in India, is if they are not PAL/NTSC compatible depending on what you use. South Africans for a long time bought Australian and UK X-Boxes and bought games locally and they worked fine.

Xbox Profiles are bound to a marketplace region and their offers, including their currency. You can migrate profiles from from one region to another.
If you switch your current US profile to the Brazilian marketplace you will forfeit the remaining currency on the account till you migrate back (I think) and not be able to buy any US content, your former US account will become a Brazilian account.
