Thanks to a couple of The Riddle of Steel sessions I had seneschaled, which didn't really use any dice or stat comparison, I started to ponder the idea of a statless system. I realize that it would be pretty much a collaborative story-telling with one of the speakers being an arbiter or referee, but there is at least one situation where lack of rules and stats to compare against each other would result in a problem – physical confrontation. Battle. Duel. Combat, fight, brawl and so on.
So, I am looking for systems that satisfy the four simple rules outlined below:
- Absolutely no numerical representation of characters' abilities, skills, strengths, weaknesses and other characteristics;
- Absolutely no numerical comparisons to determine situation results;
- No usage of dice, cards, jenga bricks, pick-up sticks or other random or semi-random factors to determine outcomes or results;
- A description, hints, help and examples of combat and other competitive physical activities.
Some clarification is needed about #2: I am imagining a complete lack of numerical comparison, although I don't have anything against unconventional solutions. So result by vote is an option, as well as anything different enough from just comparing numbers on character sheets.
