Steam – Can’t delete steam folders

I'm not sure if this falls into the "gaming" catorgory but it's for the purpose of gaming. So there was a problem with one of my game files so I deleted part of the game, realized I messed up, then went to delete the whole game. That part doesn't matter. But when I went to delete the folder from the "common" section in steam, it said I needed permission from DESKTOP-(serial number)/(my username). I went through the permissions of the folder, changed a ton of stuff, and I still can't delete the folder. The game doesn't appear in steam, but the folder is still on my computer, taking up space. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Booting to safe mode to delete the folder did the trick for me.

Depends on the game.

I've got no experience with TF2, but CS:Source — which uses same engine and should have similar directory layout. In case of CS:S, "Delete local content" did remove all mods.

Another game I've tried with were S.T.A.L.K.E.R series. All mods were also deleted in that case.

I'm guessing it really depends if mods are installed in same directory as game, or does game have separate directory for mods.

Steam – Can you delete the contents of the downloads folder

I noticed that the files and folders that were direct sub-folders of downloading were numbered.

These correspond with the steam app ID's of the games that don't exist on my system (17585).

There are no other files which leads me to believe that this is just a bug in Steam (because it is cleaning up files for games I do have).
I.e. it will clean up downloads for games that it knows about, but any other files it may have put there will not be removed if the game is deleted.

I deleted the files, restarted steam, and nothing adverse happened.
