[SalesForce] Restrict on creating new Record by Record Type

I am having a Custom object "Service_Type__c".

There are 3 record Types : Author, Consultant, Publish

I want when record type is "Author", user of a perticular profile can't create a record. It will throw error "You are not authorized to Create Record with this record type".

Is it possible in Salesforce by configuration ?

Note : Service_Type__c and opportunity object have relationship, so we can create Service_Type__c record in the Opportunity Related list.

2nd way in which we can create Service_Type__c record is click on the object tab and click on New button.

Above scenaio is applicable for Clicking on New button. If User is clicking on Tab and clicking on New tab, then User will get the error. User is supposed to creat the record via opportunity object.

AFAIK this is unexpected behavior and should be logged with support. There isn't any reason I've seen for why a list view button should behave any differently with respect to record type selection.

Update and Workaround

For reasons unknown (and which feel like a bug) all activity new task/event buttons skip the record type selection page. As the question, @PeterKnolle, found out the work around is to create a custom button using the task based url which will support record type selection, i.e. {!URLFOR($Action.Task.NewTask)} and replace the standard New Task button where needed.

It appears that the issue is related to whether the button is an Activity button (vs. a Task or Event). In a related post the questioner had a custom list view button that was skipping the record type selection page. Originally they had been using $Action.Activity.NewTask and after switching to $Action.Task.NewTask the record type selection page re-appeared.

You can achieve this by creating three custom list buttons on the child object, one for each record type.

The content type of the button should be URL and the URL should look something like this.

/xxx/e?CF00ND000000xxxx={!X.Name}&CF00ND000000xxxx_lkid={!X.Id}&retURL=%2F{!Account.Id}&RecordTypeId='ChildRecordTypeId_R1'

Change the 'xxx' to key prefix of your custom object x and field Id 'CF00ND000000xxxx' field id of the lookup field x on your child object.

Create different page layouts for each recordtype in X. Expose the each of list of the child list button in each layout.
