Is there any way/mod to highlight containers or collectible items in Fallout 4? I've searched some forums and cheatsheets, but didn't find any reference. Any idea?

There are 78 permanent SPECIAL points in Fallout 4.
- You start off with 28 points.
- You can find a You're SPECIAL! book in your Sanctuary home for another point.
- Can only increase a maxed stat if a debuff like alcohol is used to temporarily lower one of your maxed stats
- You can train all your SPECIAL stats up to 10, so that's 42 remaining points.
- Additional Bobbleheads (for each specific SPECIAL stat) can be found, 7 points.
You can max out your character with 10 in each SPECIAL trait provided every time you level up you simply choose the appropriate training to increase your stats (as opposed to choosing perks).
Remember, there's no level cap, so you can keep on levelling and start getting other perks later.
So you start off with 28, but you can easily improve all of them to 70, should you choose to only train those perks starting at Level 2.
This means 70 - 28 = 42. Meaning the earliest you could max out all your stats is getting to Level 43, while every time you level up putting points in the stat you want to increase, provided you also don't find any bobbleheads along your way.
Additionally, some perks grant permanent increases in stats at specific times of the day or at a certain HP level, so those are technically also "permanent".
That seems to be the only difference. Items with a green trim can be picked up, moved, and placed in the settlement, or stored in the workbench for later use (note: it seems you can only store items that you can build yourself from scrap. Some items can be moved/placed and functionally used, but not stored, such as white picket fences). Items with yellow trim are simply for salvaging materials, and their names occasionally imply this, as they are often "ruined" items (ruined house, broken toilet). Yellow items are also not movable in workshop mode, which also supports that they don't have any real use in the settlement.
It seems safe to scrap anything with a yellow outline, with maybe a couple of exceptions. If you scrap a container (such as mailboxes), you might want to make sure it is empty first, or you'll have to retrieve the contents from the workshop inventory later. Or, perhaps, if you wanted to keep any trees that remain upright in the settlement, don't scrap it for wood.

As suggested by DCShannon, the Rank 2 Scrapper perk gives you some ability to highlight collectible items and containers.
At 5 Intelligence, you can invest in the Scrapper perk. At the base rank, it allows you to salvage uncommon parts from your weapons and armor. At the second rank, unlocked at level 23, you will not only be able to salvage rare parts, but favorited components will be highlighted in the game world. This appears to include the containers holding these items, as discussed on this Reddit forum.
This allows you to highlight any item that would file under the 'junk' tab, and any container holding one of these junk items.
To favorite a component, simply access a crafting station, and locate a recipe that contains the component. A message will appear, prompting you to press a button (Y on Xbox, Triangle on PlayStation) to tag any missing components.
Some things to remember:
1 - You can not tag components if you have enough to make the recipe. Either drop what you have in a non-workstation container, find a recipe with higher demand than what you have, or create enough of the recipe to burn your component stash down to a compatible amount.
2 - If you are wishing to highlight all objects, make sure you remove all junk from your workstation. Place all junk from your inventory into a non-workstation container, and proceed through the list of recipes, opting to "tag missing components" at each one. If you are wanting to ensure a "cover all basis" approach, ensure you visit each workstation, as some use unique components. As DCShannon points out, you can also select the component in your junk inventory, and select it for tagging from there.
3 - The different crafting stations are the workshop, power armor station, chem lab, armor station, weapon station and cooking fire.
4 - You do not have to worry all that much about components associated with locked recipes. While there are a few that do not immediately appear, most are available, and simply locked until you have the required perk. You should still be able to assess the material list, and tag as desired.
