Just make sure there's at least a 1025 blocks distance between your overworld portals:

You should also note that, in SMP prior to 1.6, portals were bugged for quite some time and needed server mods like Bukkit in order to work. Ask your admins/operators, there may still be some Bukkit plugin running on your server handling the Nether.
The short answer is no. When You enter the a portal from the nether, on your way to the overworld, Minecraft calculates the primary portal coordinates with this generalized equation:
{X, Y, Z} → {floor(X) × 8, Y, floor(Z) × 8}
The game then checks for an active portal in a 128 block radius around that location. Given your nether portal coordinates:
X: -70; Y: 72; Z: -139
Your overworld portal must be within the following horizontal bounds:
X = -688, -432
Z = -1240, -984
Remember, any overworld portals within 1024 blocks of each other will link to the same nether portal, because 1024 blocks in the overworld = 128 blocks in the Nether, and the game checks for portals in a radius of 128 blocks.
If you build a new nether portal at the blaze farm and destroy your old portal, your main base portal will probably link up to your blaze farm. However, when you attempt to go back to the overworld, Minecraft will look for a portal within the above bounds and create a new one if it doesn't find one.
Your best option is probably to build a rail line from your current portal to the blaze farm. Ghasts can destroy any block with a blast resistance below 20.17, but they won't shoot at you without a line of sight, so you can make an inexpensive safety-tunnel around your rail line with pure Netherrack.
You can also build a more scenic tunnel with stone, glass, leaves, fences, etc, since Ghasts cannot "see" through transparent blocks.

The distance that your new portal needs to be away from the old one isn't terribly large, only 128 blocks, but it's measured in terms of the destination world; every block in the Nether is worth eight in the overworld, meaning you'll need to move around 1024 blocks or so away to keep a new portal from joining the one that already exists in the Nether.
I say "around 1024 blocks or so", because the existing portal on the nether side may already be some distance away from the location that would best match up with the existing Overworld portal.
There are, however, a few other options. You could try building a bridge across the lava on the Nether side. Painful and awkward, but once across, you could build a new Nether portal on that end, destroy the Nether-side one that exists (just punching it to turn it off should suffice), and hope that the new Nether-side portal successfully connects to your existing one. Alternatively, you might be able to make a suicide run through the portal, destroy the island so it's no longer a valid spot (and also destroy the portal on that side, too), then once you die and respawn on the Overworld side, a quick trip through should trigger the creation of a whole new Nether-side portal, which might not be in such a poor location.
